Devolution funds continue to drive meaningful development across Zimbabwe, as demonstrated by the recent commissioning of the Blinkwater Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Mvuma.
This landmark project addresses a long-standing educational deficit in the area and marks a significant step toward achieving equitable access to education under the Second Republic.
The new ECD centre, with a capacity to accommodate 100 learners, is expected to transform the lives of young children in the Mvuma District.
Plans are already underway to expand the facility into a fully-fledged primary school, further solidifying the Government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Centre yesterday, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, highlighted the Government’s inclusive development agenda.
“The Second Republic, under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, continues to prioritise rural development, leaving no one and no place behind. Today’s milestone demonstrates the transformative impact of devolution funds on educational infrastructure. The Blinkwater ECD Centre aligns with the Second Republic’s Vision 2030 goals of modernising and industrialising marginalised areas,” said Minister Ncube.
Mvuma Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer, Lovemore Chatikobo noted that the Blinkwater ECD block was established after recognising the dangers faced by children crossing major highways to attend school.
“This project was funded through devolution and council resources. We are grateful to the Government for releasing the funds on time, and we are committed to developing this into a primary school soon,” he said.
The local community has expressed overwhelming gratitude for the new centre, which alleviates the burden of long and dangerous commutes for young learners.
“Our children used to walk long distances to the nearest schools. This new facility is a blessing, and it shows that the Government recognises the needs of young learners in our area,” said a local resident.
Another added, “There was no school nearby, and this construction has brought hope and relief to our community. We commend the Government for mobilising local resources to make this possible.”
The Government’s investment in modern infrastructure, ranging from classroom blocks to computer laboratories, underscores its dedication to empowering learners across the country.
The Blinkwater ECD Centre stands as a testament to the Second Republic’s commitment to transforming Zimbabwe’s education sector, ensuring every child has access to quality learning facilities in their community.
