The Deputy Minister of Defence, Brigadier General (Rtd) Levi Mayihlome, recently officially commissioned a newly constructed carpentry and joinery block at the Zimbabwe Military Medical Rehabilitation Centre (ZMMRC) yesterday.
Formerly known as Tsanga Lodge, the ZMMRC has expanded its capacity to provide vital rehabilitation and vocational training for military personnel through the newly added facility.
Brigadier General Mayihlome stood in for the Minister of Defence, Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, who was unable to attend due to other commitments.
Constructed by skilled artisans from the 3 Infantry Brigade, the carpentry and joinery block aim to enhance the centre’s capabilities in training military personnel, equipping them with practical skills for their reintegration into civilian society following military service.
The new facility represents a significant advancement in vocational training at the centre, aligning with broader rehabilitation efforts for military personnel.
During the commissioning ceremony, Brigadier General Mayihlome emphasized the initiative's critical role in supporting the welfare of Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) members.
He praised the craftsmanship and dedication of the 3 Infantry Brigade for their work on the project, stating, “The construction of this block is a major step forward in strengthening our rehabilitation and skills development programs. This achievement reflects the collaborative spirit between our military engineers and local enterprises.”
The project was made possible through a strategic partnership with Tottengram Investments (Pvt) Ltd, an indigenous financial institution that provided vital support for the development.
This collaboration highlights the value of private sector involvement in advancing the country’s military infrastructure and rehabilitation initiatives.
A representative from Tottengram Investments, who declined to be named, lauded the effort, emphasizing the importance of continued partnerships between the government and local businesses.
“This project not only benefits the military’s personnel but also bolsters the local economy by empowering Zimbabwean artisans and businesses,” the representative noted.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, government officials, and local stakeholders, who all praised the project as a significant milestone for both the Zimbabwe National Army and the nation’s broader rehabilitation efforts.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Military Medical Rehabilitation Centre is renowned for its comprehensive support services for military personnel, including medical and psychological rehabilitation, vocational training, and reintegration into civilian life.
