Kufakwevantu Chirigo, a 37-year-old man from Chipinge, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Chipinge Magistrates' Court for attempted murder following a violent altercation with his sister.
The court heard that Chirigo, who was intoxicated, attacked his sister during a domestic dispute, which tragically resulted in the death of her infant child.
The incident began as a verbal confrontation, during which Chirigo insulted his sister and demanded that she return to her marital home with her children. The situation quickly escalated when he assaulted her with a spanner, hitting her hands multiple times.

Chirigo pursued her, ultimately catching up and striking her on the neck. In a horrifying turn, he then attacked her 18-month-old child, who was strapped to her back, with a machete, resulting in the infant's death.
He continued to assault his sister with the machete, inflicting several injuries, though she managed to block some of the blows, sustaining cuts on & wrists.
For the charge of attempted murder against his sister, Chirigo received a 10-year prison sentence.
