President Mnangagwa yesterday congratulated the United States (US) Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidate, on his victory in the U.S. presidential polls held on Tuesday.
Writing on his X handle, Mnangagwa underscored the need for global leadership that prioritises the needs of the populace.
“Congratulations to President-elect @realdonaldtrump
on your election victory. The world needs more leaders who speak for the people. Zimbabwe stands ready to work with you and the American people to build a better, more prosperous, and more peaceful world,” wrote President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa’s remarks reflect his administration’s long-standing position that Zimbabwe seeks to be “an enemy to none and a friend to all,” prioritising cooperation with all progressive forces for mutual development.
His emphasis on leaders “who speak for the people” aligns with his administration’s efforts to position Zimbabwe as a partner open to international collaboration while distancing itself from isolationist tendencies of the past.
Trump’s election victory has been a focal point of international debate. The former U.S. president, representing the Republican Party, staged a significant comeback by defeating Democratic candidate Harris Kamala in a closely contested race.
Trump secured key swing states such as Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin, which played a decisive role in his electoral college tally, enabling his return to the White House.
Pundits attributed Trump’s victory to his ability to tap into economic anxieties, increased turnout among key conservative demographics, and a broad-based populist appeal.
Trump's message of “America First” once again resonated strongly among rural voters and parts of the working class, leading to his electoral success.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa’s outreach to Trump signifies a continued push to forge strategic partnerships on the global stage, signalling Zimbabwe’s readiness to engage with nations that can support mutual development and peace initiatives.
President Mnangagwa’s administration has consistently advocated for dialogue, peace, and inclusive development, seeking to position Zimbabwe as a cooperative international player amid ongoing economic challenges and efforts to reengage with Western powers.
