The path to achieving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 requires a strong focus on monitoring and evaluating development projects.
This was emphasised last Tuesday by Gutu South Constituency Member of Parliament, Pupurai Togarepi, who underscored the importance of ensuring that transformative projects remain viable and beneficial to communities.
Speaking at an event where he donated 12 000 road runner chicks to men in his Gutu South Constituency, Honourable Togarepi highlighted the significance of consistently following up on projects to ensure their long-term success.
"We have been rolling out many projects followed by close monitoring and evaluation so that the beneficiaries realise satisfactory returns," Togarepi said.
He made it clear that without proper oversight, even the most well-intentioned projects could fail to achieve their full potential.
Togarepi pledged to continue supporting his constituents until the goals of Vision 2030 are realised.
He further committed to assisting in alleviating water challenges in his constituency.
Togarepi further urged that beneficiaries of the various projects he has spearheaded must not rely solely on one initiative but should seek to expand their income-generating activities.
"The borehole drilling and repair spree across the constituency will promote access to clean and safe water, which is essential for human and animal life," he remarked.
Togarepi’s emphasis on continuous evaluation of development efforts was supported by project monitoring expert Tapera Svondo, who shared his professional insight into the importance of tracking project progress.
"Project monitoring involves tracking a project’s progress, identifying potential roadblocks, and taking corrective action to keep the project on track. It also facilitates learning from both successes and failures," Svondo explained.
The impact of Togarepi's initiatives is already being felt by the beneficiaries. Jameson Mufumisi, a local resident, expressed his gratitude for the development projects introduced in the region.
"Honourable Togarepi has implemented various projects in our area, including facilitating the launch of the Presidential heifer, goat, and poultry schemes, which have greatly improved the community’s nutrition and ability to generate income," Mufumisi stated.
Another beneficiary, Ishmael Mutopa, praised the ongoing support, saying, "It’s great to see the distribution of 12 000 roadrunner chicks to males across the constituency, a development that is already augmenting the existing projects, which include piggery, rabbitry, gardening, and more."
Meanwhile, by empowering local residents and ensuring that the projects he has introduced are properly managed, Togarepi is paving the way for sustained economic growth in Gutu South Constituency.
His approach of combining hands-on support with consistent monitoring and evaluation of the projects aligns with the broader goals of Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve widespread prosperity in Zimbabwe.
