The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has made an urgent appeal for inclusive dialogue with the Government, amidst growing concerns over its declining popularity.
In a statement released on Saturday, CCC spokesperson Caston Matewu underscored that party's belief that dialogue was crucial for addressing the multifaceted challenges facing Zimbabwe.
"We further implore the Zanu PF Government to prioritize inclusive dialogue as a lasting solution to the multifaceted issues facing Zimbabwe," Matewu said.
Despite the CCC's plea, political analyst Calvin Chitsunge expressed significant scepticism regarding that party's motives.
Chitsunge argued that the CCC's call for dialogue is primarily a strategic manoeuvre aimed at reviving its flagging political fortunes.
"The CCC should not mislead the public into believing that there are pressing issues necessitating dialogue from all political parties. Their popularity within the country is visibly waning, and this call for dialogue is nothing more than a tactic to salvage their diminishing political influence. It is a clear attempt to reposition themselves as relevant in the eyes of the electorate," Chitsunge remarked.
Political commentator Dr Edmore Muchenje echoed Chitsunge's sentiments, describing the CCC's actions as desperate attempts to attract international attention ahead of the upcoming SADC Summit.
"The CCC is undoubtedly desperate and is resorting to political theatrics to capture the attention of the global media ahead of the SADC Summit. These actions are not grounded in a genuine desire for constructive dialogue but rather a ploy to garner sympathy and visibility on the international stage," Dr Muchenje stated.
The context of the CCC's call for dialogue is further complicated by the existence of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May 2019.
POLAD was established as a platform for various political actors to engage in peaceful, open, and transparent discourse aimed at finding solutions to the nation's challenges.
