The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has announced that Matabeleland South Province will host a Diaspora Investment Conference in line with the country’s devolution agenda, from 4 to 6 July 2024, in Beitbridge.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the conference will be held in a hybrid format and with the theme of unlocking new investment frontiers through diaspora community engagement.
“The Conference will be held under the theme ‘Matebeleland South Province-unlocking new investment frontiers through diaspora community engagement’. The event will be held in a hybrid format allowing for both physical and virtual participation by our esteemed Zimbabwean Diaspora Community and stakeholders in various sectors of investment,” read the statement.
Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) mandated to enhance Diaspora participation in National Development will, also, participate in the Conference.
The Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ministry, further highlighted objectives such as unveiling investment opportunities, deepening diaspora engagement and enhancing dialogue between the Province and investment stakeholder; as well as addressing challenges and hindrances that impede Diaspora uptake of opportunities in Mat South Province; and to provide a platform for the Diaspora to engage the Provincial authorities on initiatives that spur innovation, economic growth and development.
The Ministry emphasized that the Conference would provide opportunities for the diaspora community, locals, foreign investors and the private sector.
“The Conference presents opportunities for the Diaspora community, local and foreign investors and the private sector to participate and engage in dialogue on the potential investment opportunities and possible partnerships that Matabeleland South Province has to offer,” said the Ministry.
The conference is a step in the right direction in relation to Vision 2030 of achieving an upper-middle income economy by 2030. There is an opportunity of new businesses and expansion of existing ones. This will translate into job creation, knowledge and skills transfer, encourage entrepreneurship ventures and foster a sense of solidarity and shared purpose.
