Cabinet has given the green light for a significant investment in Harare, approving a $25 million project for a transmission cable manufacturing plant.

This initiative is a collaboration between ZESA Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd and Management Services Company under a Public Private Partnership arrangement.

During yesterday’s post Cabinet media briefing, the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, shared insights into the development.

“Cabinet approved ZESA Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd to conclude an agreement framework with Management Services Company for the establishment of a US$25 million transmission cable manufacturing plant in Harare,” Dr Muswere stated.

Minister Muswere highlighted the project's potential to drive technological advancement and expertise at ZESA Enterprises, particularly benefiting its workforce.

According to the Minister, this strategic move aims to bolster the production and distribution of power cables essential for expanding Zimbabwe's electricity networks to meet increased national electricity access targets.

Dr Muswere also noted the broader economic benefits, stating, “The local copper mines will have a local market for their produce, and there will be significant employment opportunities for Zimbabweans. The value chains will also contribute to increased gross domestic product through local, regional, and continental cable and related product sales, which will also include exports.”

Additionally, the project aligns with Zimbabwe's commitment to sustainable development, as demonstrated by the recent agreement between Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) and Skypower Global at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

This agreement is part of the Government's efforts to promote renewable energy technologies and economic growth in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and improve the quality of life for millions of Zimbabweans.
