The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) finds itself embroiled in escalating factional battles, with reports emerging of some members resorting to unconventional methods, including spiritual warfare and black magic, to settle internal disputes.
Among those reportedly delving into these mystical practices are Albert Mhlanga and Gideon Shoko, whose actions are raising eyebrows within the opposition party.
According to a reliable source within the CCC, Mhlanga, visibly disgruntled by his exclusion from the list of senators submitted to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) by Sengezo Tshabangu last week, has resolved to employ spiritual warfare against Tshabangu and his legal advisor, Kucaca Phulu.
The source disclosed that Mhlanga believed his omission from the senatorial list was unjust, alleging that Tshabangu and Phulu falsely attributed their composition to Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube, with a view to quelling dissent among Bulawayo CCC members, who felt marginalised.
"Mhlanga has sought assistance from various prophets and sangomas to retaliate against Tshabangu and Phulu for snubbing him," the source stated.
Furthermore, the source revealed that Shoko, once a trusted lieutenant of Nelson Chamisa in Bulawayo, has also turned to the spiritual realm to wield influence over both the Tshabangu and pro-Chamisa factions within the CCC.
Despite his alignment with Tshabangu faction, Shoko's spiritual manoeuvres reportedly enable him to manipulate both factions for his own benefit, effectively playing them against each other.
"Shoko's spiritual tactics appear to be yielding results, with members of Tshabangu faction providing financial support for his wife's tertiary education and assisting his family with groceries," the source disclosed.
Despite repeated attempts to reach out to both Mhlanga and Shoko for comment, their mobile phones remained unanswered.
However, the emergence of spiritual warfare and black magic within the CCC underscores the depth of the factional divisions plaguing that party and raises concerns over the lengths to which members are willing to go to assert their influence and secure their interests.
As the CCC grapples with internal strife, the implications of these mystical interventions on that party's unity and stability remain to be seen.
