Job Sikhala, recently released from remand prison, is reportedly on the brink of forming a new political party, signalling his departure from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), formerly led by Nelson Chamisa.
A source close to Sikhala revealed to this publication that the firebrand politician held a clandestine meeting with key allies, including Freddy Masarirevu and Obert Masaraure, where they unanimously agreed to transform the Job Sikhala Solidarity Movement into a fully-fledged political entity.
The source disclosed that Sikhala, disenchanted with the CCC and Chamisa's autocratic leadership style, expressed his conviction to chart his own political course, citing a dream while in prison that seemingly instructed him to disengage from Chamisa.
The source added that Sikhala is gearing up for a nationwide tour to assess his support base before formally announcing the establishment of his new party.
Yesterday, Sikhala was reportedly in Bulawayo, taking the pulse of his popularity, and is set to embark on a journey to Manicaland Province next week.
The source emphasised Sikhala's intention to traverse the country in the coming weeks, actively soliciting support for his envisioned political movement.
"Job Sikhala is determined to carve his own political path and has distanced himself from the CCC and Chamisa. He firmly believes that there is no future for him within the current political landscape and has decided to heed the call from his dream to stand independent of existing opposition political formations," the source disclosed.
Intriguingly, the source revealed that Sikhala is exploring spiritual dimensions for empowerment in his political journey.
Allegedly, Sikhala plans to visit prominent prophets and sangomas, seeking divine blessings.
Sikhala’s presence at Prophet Blessing Chiza's church in Bulawayo yesterday was cited as part of this mission to connect with spiritual leaders, aiming to be anointed as a political figure.
"Job Sikhala is on a quest for spiritual guidance and empowerment as he takes on the challenge of leading his own political party. He is still contemplating a suitable name for his envisioned party, intending to distance himself from the MDC-99 brand to create something entirely new," the source added.
Despite numerous attempts to obtain comments from Sikhala and his spokesperson, Masarirevu, their mobile phones remained unreachable.
However, the unfolding developments suggest a significant shift in Zimbabwe’s opposition politics as Sikhala prepares to navigate uncharted political waters, leaving the CCC and Chamisa in his wake.
