The Citizens Coalition for Change leader, Nelson Chamisa recently announced the departure of co-deputies, Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti, and Happymore Chidziva from that party.
This revelation, made during a recent Citizens National Assembly (CNA), has deepened the rift within the CCC and highlighted growing internal turmoil.
A source privy to the proceedings reported that Chamisa made this startling announcement in response to a query from senior CCC member, Rangarirai Mutingwende, who had questioned the absence of prominent members like Ncube and Biti from the CNA meetings.
"Chamisa's declaration was clear and unequivocal. He stated that Ncube, Biti, and Chidziva were no longer part of the CCC and were free to form their political entities if they wished," the source recounted.
The source said that the meeting took a charged turn when Chamisa, visibly irate, accused some within the CCC of betrayal.
The source reported that during the meeting, Chamisa expressed his frustration with the internal situation of the party, stating, "Unknowingly, I have nurtured vipers and traitors among us, and the time has come to reveal all the traitors within the CCC."
Further exacerbating that party's internal conflicts is Chamisa's directive for CCC councillors to disengage from council duties as a protest against the recalls initiated by that party's Secretary-General, Sengezo Tshabangu. The directive is facing a strong resistence.
According to the source, the majority of members at that meeting disagreed with this strategy, citing concerns over its impact on service delivery and the electorate's welfare.
The source said that another CCC senior member voiced concerns over the proposed strategy, stating, "Abandoning our elected duties would be catastrophic. It would not only disrupt service delivery but also disadvantage those who entrusted us with their votes."
The same source highlighted that this internal discord is threatening to tear the party apart.
"The CCC is embroiled in a battle of factions, with each side pulling in its direction. The unity that once held the party together is now under severe strain," the source added.
This development comes at a critical time for the CCC, as it is failing to mend the rifts that are threatening to destroy that party a few months after its formation.
