Sengezo Tshabangu, Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has made shocking accusations against CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa, of attempting to bribe him to stop further recalls of CCC Members of Parliament (MPs) and legislators.
This revelation comes after Tshabangu had embarked on a mission to recall candidates imposed by Chamisa whom he deemed illegitimate, claiming they were imposed for the latter’s personal gain. The development has further sparked internal conflict within the party.
Writing on his X page, Tshabangu stated on how Chamisa had sent an emissary which was headed by Gift Siziba, CCC deputy spokesperson, with bribe money to convince him not to go forward with the recalls.
“Yesterday Chamisa sent these young men to me and tried to offer me money and a vehicle so that I don't announce another wave of recalls. But, I'm sorry that I'm not corrupt. I'm driven by democracy, transparency, and fairness. I'm not after material things but transparency,” said Tshabangu.
Tshabangu emphasized that his motivation for the recalls stemmed not from personal gain, but from a desire to enforce democratic principles and transparency within the party.
"I'm not doing this for money. I'm doing this to fight for democracy and transparency within the party,” firmly stated Tshabangu.
Furthermore, political analyst, Terence Chipwanya weighed in on the issue, criticizing Chamisa for resorting to bribery and sending representatives to handle the situation. Chipwanya further highlighted that Chamisa's decision to dispatch Gift Siziba was a clear indication of his leadership shortcomings.
“Instead of trying to silence Tshabangu through questionable means, Chamisa should engage in a constructive dialogue to address the underlying issues and restore order within the party. Dispatching Siziba and the lot was a clear indication of his (Chamisa) leadership shortcomings.
“Chamisa's tendency to send others to clean up the mess rather than confronting challenges head-on exposes a lack of leadership skills. Whenever things get tough, he always sends others to clean up his mess,” said Chipwanya.
Chipwanya further emphasized that the party is in dire need of internal order, which Chamisa has failed to provide. Sending Siziba, according to Chipwanya, was merely a band-aid solution that failed to address the root cause of the conflict.
It remains to be seen how Chamisa will respond to these allegations and whether he will be able to address the growing concerns within the party.
