Tensions have escalated within the opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), as mistrust and internal conflicts become more pronounced.
The rift within that party is most evident between two of its high-profile members, the Harare Post can reveal.
According to close contact, there are growing strains between CCC Deputy National Spokesperson, Gift ‘Ostallos’ Siziba, and CCC National Spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi. A source indicated that Siziba's disgruntlement stemmed from the appointment of Mkwananzi as the party's national spokesperson, a role that many insiders believe Siziba was eyeing.
"It's not just about the position. There's more to it," revealed the contact who chose to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the information.
According to the contact, Siziba suspects that he is being systematically side-lined by that party's leadership, particularly by CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa.
“Such suspicions could signal deeper cracks within the party’s core.
"Siziba feels he has the charisma and energy that can overshadow others, but he thinks Chamisa might be keeping him down because he fears his popularity might overgrow his (Chamisa),” added the contact.
“Both Siziba and Mkwananzi are influential figures within the CCC, commanding their own sets of loyalists. This makes the situation even more precarious, as any prolonged internal struggle could lead to factions and further divisions,” the source added.
However, with insiders like the aforementioned contact shedding light on the matter, political analysts predict that this continued disgruntlement amongst that party’s senior members could threaten Chamisa’s prospects to lead that party and thwart efforts to unite structures.
