President Emmerson Mnangagwa stressed that Manicaland Province is poised for economic growth, a development which is in line with the Government's Vision 2030, of making Zimbabwe an upper middle income economy. President Mnangagwa made the remarks yesterday at Handina Primary School in Nyazura, Makoni South District, Manicaland Province, where he addressed thousands of ZANU PF supporters.
President Mnangagwa said, "Manicaland's future is bright because it is also anchored by agriculture. We are also in discussion with Mozambique to establish Beira Port to ensure movement of our goods in and out of our country. Be assured that Government is already working on dualising Mutare road linking Beira."
He added, "Government is also working to ensure that each village is going to have solar powered boreholes to allow free access of water. We also commissioned dams including Marovanyati Dam, to increase our irrigation schemes. We are moving towards curbing effects of climate change."
President Mnangagwa also highlighted that Manicaland is rich in diamond, lithium and gold. He emphasised that having minerals is a blessing, which would ensure development in that Province. Furthermore, the President said Government is also prioritising artisanal miners and would ensure that they would get machinery to increase production.
Moreover, President Mnangagwa acknowledged the liberation fighters from Manicaland Province, whom he said played a crucial role in liberating Zimbabwe. He said the majority of the country’s liberation fighters hailed from that province, citing the first Chairperson of ZANU PF, the late, Cde Herbert Chitepo. He cited that the same post is currently being held by Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, who also hails from the same province. ZANU PF’s rally at Handina Primary School becomes the second gathering in Manicaland after the first one which was held on 24 June 2023, where the Party launched its election campaign at Mutema Secondary, Chipinge.
