Traditional Leaders are preparing for the upcoming Chiefs’ conference to be held in Bulawayo where President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officiate, the Harare Post has learnt.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works Director of Communication and Advocacy, Gabriel Musvora informed this publication that the Chiefs’ Conference is set to begin on 14 March 2023.
"The Annual Chiefs’ Conference is set to commence this Tuesday and it will encompass all chiefs and headmen in the country. President Mnangagwa will officially open the conference on Wednesday.
“They are going to interact with various Ministries, so either the Ministers or Permanent Secretaries will attend the conference. This year’s conference will, for the first time, be attended by headmen, so we are expecting more than 800 delegates comprising more than 250 chiefs as well 500 headmen,” said Mr Masvora.
A political commentator, Nathan Muswere highlighted that traditional leaders played an important role in the governance of this country since time immemorial.
"Traditional leaders are very important in the governance of the country as their mandate dates back to the pre-colonial era,” said Musvora.
Meanwhile, ZANU-PF is preparing for its primary elections as aspiring candidates have responded overwhelmingly, as evidenced by thousands of curriculum vitaes submitted to the Party's Headquarters.
