Bona Rural Health Clinic in Bubi, a product of Government`s devolution programme was on Saturday officially opened, bringing an end to long distance travelling by locals to seek medical attention.

Speaking during the official opening ceremony, Bubi Rural District Council (BRDC) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Partson Mlilo thanked the Government for availing developmental funds through the devolution programme, and all the stakeholders who contributed towards the success of the project.

“Let me give greater credit to where it is due, the Government of Zimbabwe led by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This facility was made possible through funds provided under devolution. Let me hasten to say that if it were not for these funds, it would have taken council many years to be able to secure funding for the construction of the structure of this match.

“This momentous achievement is a product of many contributions of various kinds. Allow me to extend my gratitude to many individuals and institutions that contributed to the success of the project. I thank our councillors who were able to put Bona clinic out of many clinics needed in the district at the top of their priority projects to be funded by the disbursements of devolution funds,” he said.

Dr Mlilo highlighted that it was self-evident that devolution drive was enabling local authorities across the country to render service delivery to communities in areas like provision of clean water, road rehabilitation, education and health sectors.

Bona Rural Health Clinic, which was constructed at a cost of $10 549 287, 74, consists of two offices, utility room,  storeroom, labour room, post-natal room, consultation room, two drug rooms, two staff cottages, solar powered water scheme, blair and flush system toilets.

Besides Bona clinic, BRDC using devolution funds also managed to construct classroom blocks and toilets for schools around the district, drilling four boreholes and purchased a tractor and a dam scooper among other projects.

The principle of devolution is part of the Constitution that was adopted in 2013, although its implementation began in earnest with the coming in of the Second Republic.
