…City of Harare property owners told
The Provincial Development Coordinator for Harare Metropolitan Province, Tafadzwa Muguti has called on all property owners to revert to laid down city by-laws by ensuring their building meet the required standards.
Speaking through a press statement, Muguti expressed dismay at the mushrooming illegal buildings around the Harare Central Business District (CBD), which are an eyesore and called for immediate action to regularise the anomaly.
“We have noted with great concern the rising number of illegally partitioned buildings in the CBD and the need for property owners to maintain the standards required in the City by-laws,” said Muguti.
Giving a stern warning Muguti advised all property owners to work on improving their buildings to meet the set standards or risk closure.
“All property owners are therefore required to immediately renovate their properties, maintain the frontage of their properties , have fully functional clean toilets for their employees, tenants and customers, whilst ensuring that their building are accessible by people living with disabilities,” read the press statement.
Meanwhile, the statement also stated that property owners whose buildings have been neglected will start receiving abatement orders from the City of Harare. The pioneer project will soon be decentralised to all local authorities in Harare Metropolitan Province, in order to achieve world class standards and to maintain a clean, organised, modernised and beautiful city.
