Embassies congratulate Zim over Mbuya Nehanda statue

The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has congratulated Zimbabwe on the unveiling of Mbuya Nehanda’s statue, wishing the country success under the new dispensation, while the Dutch Embassy in Harare described Mbuya Nehanda’s statue as a symbol of the struggle for democracy.

Posting on its Twitter handle yesterday, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe wrote, “Congratulations to Zimbabwe for the unveiling of Mbuya Nehanda statue, a symbol of triumph against imperialism. Indeed her bones rose again, victory was won and we wish nothing, but success to Zimbabwe under the new dispensation.”

On its Twitter handle, the Dutch Embassy Harare posted, “Happy Africa Day to all our followers from this beautiful and diverse continent. Here in Harare, a monument to liberation war hero Mbuya Nehanda was unveiled. She is a symbol of the struggle for democracy, and the crucial role of women in fighting oppression and creating change.”

Meanwhile citizens have welcomed Mbuya Nehanda’s statue describing it as a beautiful and unique structure that will boost tourism.

“I personally think this is a beautiful structure. We need such unique infrastructure for tourism in our country. France has that Eiffel tower, I see many in the near future flocking to take pictures here, congratulation Zimbabwe, even Americans value their history,” tweeted netizen Mudiwa@mudiwaHood.

Bertha Mwonzora, daughter to MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora tweeted, “Personally excited for Mbuya Nehanda’s statue, it’s something that should have been done in the 80s. It’s actually long over due. Not only would it contribute to tourism, it’s a statement of sovereignty, which is important in instilling a sense of national pride we so desperately need.”

Former MDC-Alliance member Lilian Timveous who recently defected to Zanu-PF on her Twitter handle posted, “Thank you your Excellency,b the President of Zimbabwe Cde Mnangagwa. Today history has been made, mapfupa avo amuka chokwadi. Proud to be Zimbabwean. Second Republic woyeee.”

The MDC-Alliance-led Harare City Council on its Twitter handle posted that Mbuya Nehanda’s statue unveiled by President Mnangagwa is expected to boost domestic tourism as schools will line up to learn more about the spirit medium.

Mbuya Nehanda’s statue was unveiled yesterday by President Mnangagwa and the development is a manifestation of the bold commitment to reconstruct Zimbabwe’s rich past and history. The President said it equally stands as a symbol of unity and an inspiration to present and future generations on the importance of unflinching patriotism.
