Residents turn heat on Chamisa

In an apparent show of distaste for the MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa, Zimbabweans grilled the beleaguered opposition leader over the state of the roads and service delivery, blaming MDC-led councils for mismanagement and misappropriation of funds.

Social media was awash with responses to Chamisa’s promises of a great Zimbabwe and a fresh start, as Zimbabweans expressed their dwindling confidence in MDC-led councils.

Kaelyn Choto was the first to open fire on Chamisa on Twitter questioning “ngatitangirei pazvidoko doko zvinenge maroads. Tomboti maspaghetti roads bho asi ngaauye tambogadzirisa aripo iwaya, tozoita new home, fresh team and great Zimbabwe.”

Chamisa’s response to Choto irked followers of the debate, many of whom believed Chamisa and his political outfit are all about excuses and promises that never see the light of day. Chamisa said “only if we could get a chance and opportunity kwete zvekupiwa mota isina magiya nemavhiri zvemumakanzuru umu. Local authorities must be liberated from central government.”

One Kudakwashe Marazanye gave out that “Councils are independent, how come when they want to buy expensive cars they don’t ask anyone, but they don’t have money for refuse collection. They go to expensive resorts just to have meetings, where is government in this?

Potholes and perennial rivers of raw sewage have become permanent features in most western suburbs as councils grapple with service delivery. Mutare Town Council officials recently made headlines when they blew ZW$3 million in 72 hours holding a conference.

However, residents are growing weary of the poor service delivery by councils whose have been hiding behind a finger, alleging interference from Government.

Commenting on same Keitu Metse submitted that “what then is the point of the MDC running for local council elections knowing fully well that Central Government is wholly in charge and will hinder service delivery at every turn to spite MDC? This is what it sounds like so why bother? Or there’s some benefit which makes you keep running.”

In the past, Chamisa issued numerous warnings to MDC’s corrupt councilors, but no further action was taken by the party making corruption rampant in urban councils.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has however, called on residents to seriously consider voting out corrupt officials in future elections, if they want to enjoy quality service delivery.
