Seven armed robbers who committed a spate of armed robberies in Harare, Mutoko and Macheke have been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Kudzanai Manyonga (35), Tonia Farai Ndoro (27), Prosper Magwejani (44), Gilbert Chikukwa (54), Chancellor Tandi (40), Robinson Chinhukwa (42) and Amiah Chayi (18) have been nabbed by ZRP following a tip-off by the public.
One of the robbers, Lucy Nyakudza (20), died from gunshot wounds that emanated from a shootout with the police.
According to a statement from the police, the suspects stormed a house in New Marimba, Harare armed with a big hammer, bolt cutter and a pistol before robbing the occupants US$500.00,Itel P37 cellphone, and a 42 inch Plasma television.
The Police said that during the robbery, the complainant screamed for help prompting a tuck-shop worker who was outside to investigate and saw the suspects who then fired shots at him before fleeing in their get-away vehicle.
The suspects dropped a cellphone which then led to their arrest.
The Police also said they cornered the suspects in Kuwadzana 1, where a shootout ensued before the suspects tried to escape in a Mazda Altezza and later arrested.
The suspects are linked with robberies that occurred in Spitzkop in Dzivarasekwa, Makaha area in Mutoko, Macheke and Hatfield in Harare.
The Police said that they are conducting operations to sniff out armed robbers countrywide and will not rest until such criminals are brought to book.
Criminals were further warned from resisting arrest and firing at the Police as an appropriate measure of force will be returned.
The ZRP has been working hard to bring to book all armed criminals and last month they arrested 11 armed robbers at Maruta shopping centre along Seke Road.
