MDC Alliance moots violent demos

By Political Reporter

The MDC Alliance has instructed its structures to brace for more violent demonstration against the Government and the ruling ZANU PF party whom they accuse of “destroying their party”.

This came out during a meeting addressed by that party’s National Director for the Organizing Department, Farai Chinobva, in Mutare last week.

A source who spoke to this publication said Chinobva told the over 50 attendees that the party has resolved to go head on with the Government and ruling party until their demands are met.

“Chinobva told us that the party has resolved that violent demonstrations is the only way to go from now. He said that ZANU PF should brace themselves for more mass demonstrations until they restore “democracy and respect human rights” in the country. He added that demonstrations are going to increase in all parts of the country, and with greater intensity, until Government relents,” said the source.

Chinobva is reported to have told MDC Alliance members in Mutare not to fear arrest as that party had enough qualified lawyers who can represent them in court free of charge in the event of arrests.

The same source added that Chinobva instructed that party’s Ward Coordinators in Mutare to recruit radical and violent youths who will be used to confront ZANU PF and Government.

According to the source, Chinobva insinuated that his party has been provoked beyond limit by the ruling party and the only option was to violently hit back.

Since the early 2000s, the opposition has been accused of using violence instead of using legal and peaceful channels to iron out differences with the ruling ZANU PF Government.
