The MDC Alliance is spoiling for national instability through anarchy and mayhem if it does not win this month’s harmonised elections.
This emerged during the Alliance’s campaign rally held at Highfield bus terminus in Highfield West constituency in Harare on Tuesday this week.
Speaker after speaker at the meeting threatened turmoil and civil disobedience if the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) failed to address its demands for availing the Alliance with the voters roll and allowed its (alliance’s) leadership to witness the printing of ballot papers.
“We should not just be satisfied with marching. This should be our last march. Our leaders should take us a gear up. If ZEC and Zanu PF don’t do what we want, there won’t be an election,” threatened MDC-T Chamisa faction National Youth Assembly Secretary General, Lovemore Chinoputsa.
The Alliance threatened to illegally remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power over its concerns regarding the printing of the ballot papers.
“Kana (President) Mnangagwa na(ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscilla) Chigumba vasingadi kutiratidza kuri kuprintwa maballot papers, tave kuzobvisa Mnangagwa wacho. Tave kuenda kuState House,” said MDC-T Chamisa faction National Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya.
The faction’s Women’s Assembly Chairperson, Lynette Karenyi-Kore urged the Alliance members not to go home after voting but to encamp at polling stations to “safeguard our vote.”
“If the results are not in our favour, totoziva kuti chachaya,” said Karenyi-Kore.
The Alliance’s candidate for the constituency, Happymore Chidziva incited constituents and Alliance members in general not to accept President Mnangagwa’s victory.
“Kuno kuHighfield (West) hatisi kuzotambira kuhwina kwa(President) Mnangagwa. Kana (President) Mnangagwa achida kubiridzira maelections, anototanga atiuraya,” said Chidziva.
During the meeting, MDC-T Chamisa faction Director of Elections, Murisi ZWIZWAI threatened continued onslaught against ZEC.
“After tomorrow (yesterday)’s demo(nstration) endai mundogeza magumbeze nekuti next demo tiri kunorara mutown kusvikira zvatiri kuda zvaitwa.”
Addressing anti-ZEC demonstrators in Harare yesterday, MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa endorsed his lieutenants’ careless talk and threatened to break the law by announcing the forthcoming elections’ results – a role which is constitutionally the sole preserve of ZEC.
