MDC-Alliance's fundraising Committee led by that party's Secretary General, Chalton Hwende was last week fired by that party's leader Nelson Chamisa after failing to fundraise for the party's electronic membership cards.
Addressing party members during a National Standing Committee meeting held in the capital last week, Chamisa complained that the fundraising team for the electronic party membership cards had totally failed, hence he had replaced it.
Other members in the fired committee included Treasurer General, David Coltart, National Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya, National Secretary for Presidential Affairs, Jameson Timba and Deputy National Secretary General, David Chimhini.
According to a contact who attended the meeting, Chamisa informed that he had replaced Hwende's team with an interim Committee comprising of National Secretary for Elections, Ian Makone, Chimhini, Timba and the Technical Staff from the party's Treasury, National Organising as well as the Election department.
Chamisa reportedly highlighted that the new team would focus on the manual cards, since the electronic cards project had failed.
Hwende, according to the contact objected, pointing out that his team was sabotaged by Coltart without mentioning how. Hwende queried why Chamisa retained Timba and Chimhini, yet they were also part of the so-called failed team, revealing that it was a direct attack on him by Chamisa.
During the same meeting, Hwende also accused Chamisa of failing to call for anti Government demonstrations to address challenges facing the country to which Chamisa responded that calling for demonstrations which, the electorate will ignore will tarnish his image and that of the party.
Chamisa and Hwende's relationship continues to sour and the later is reportedly threatening to leave the beleaguered opposition party.
