An Ad Hoc committee set up by the MDC-Alliance to investigate that party’s suspended Bulawayo Provincial chairlady, Tendai Masotsha over her alleged involvement in the suspected abduction and torture of Tawanda Muchehiwa, has exonerated her from all charges.
A three page report compiled by the chairperson of the Ad Hoc committee, Cecelia Chinanzvavana, Secretary of the Ad Hoc committee, Jameson Timba and committee member Kucaca Phulu, said besides social media speculations, there was no evidence that pointed to Masotsha’s involvement in Muchehiwa’s alleged abduction.
“The committee established that other than comments made on social media, no specific complaint was made against Tendai Masotsha directly to the party either at Provincial or national level by the aggrieved parties namely Tawanda Muchehiwa and or his family members.
“It was the committee sense that in the absence of a complaint, and in the normal conduct of business, the matter would have ended here,” reads part of the statement.
The report concluded that there was no conclusive evidence to link Masotsha to Muchehiwa’s alleged abduction.
“After considering the evidence before it, the committee concludes that there is no evidence to link Tendai Masotsha and the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa. There is no smoking gun,” reads the report.
Earlier, Masotsha had confided in this publication that she was innocent and accused that party’s national chairperson, Tabitha Khumalo of making up stories to have her expelled from the party.
In that same interview, Masotsha also said that reports insinuating that she was a CIO spy and that she lured Muchehiwa to have him abducted were false and nonsensical, adding that her loyalty and allegiance was to the MDC-Alliance only.
In August, the MDC-Alliance announced that the probe against Masotsha was going to take only 48 hours, however, the probe went on for three months as factional fights within that party hampered the investigations.
