The acting MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe has shut the door on Chamisa and his allies, who were eying to participate at that party’s extraordinary congress to be held between 13 and 20 November 2020.
Briefing the media after the virtual National Council meeting held yesterday in the capital, the acting Secretary for Information and Publicity in the MDC-T, Khalipani Phugeni said that the meeting resolved that all G40-linked members and those who have joined other political parties will not participate at the forthcoming congress.
“The meeting resolved to denounce and totally reject the calls by the G40 fronting erstwhile comrades, to participate in our Extra Ordinary Congress on the basis that in 2014, they were part of our structure before joining, supporting and even starting a new party, MDC-Alliance,” said Phugeni.
On shutting the door to all former MDC-T members who have crossed the floor to the Chamisa-led MDC-Alliance formation, Khalipani said that the meeting adopted all recalls and expulsions done so far in respect of those who joined, supported or formed other political parties other than the MDC-T.
The MDC-T’s National Council also agreed that the Standing Committee should put in place party systems that will ensure orderly nominations of candidates for the Extra Ordinary Congress so that non-party members cannot find themselves on the nomination list.
Khalipani further briefed the media that the MDC-T’s National Organizing Secretary, Abednico Bhebhe and National Council member Paul Gorekore are soon to be arraigned before a disciplinary committee for putting the name of that party in disrepute.
Recently, Chamisa was reported to be clandestinely meeting with the MDC-T’s 2014 structures to solicit for support, as he is intending to stand for the presidency at the coming congress.
However, the recent resolutions by the MDC-T’s National Council have shut the door on Chamisa’s participation at the congress, as he was formally expelled from that party in June this year.
