Youths are a vital cog in the country’s vision 2030 to turn Zimbabwe into an upper middle income economy status by 2030, through providing modern, decent, affordable housing for all and other initiatives.
ZANU PF Mashonaland East Secretary for Education, Rogers Pote said youths should claim their space and provide houses.
“Youths are important in the housing delivery program initiatives. They should be active like what we are doing here in Melfort. We have been given the necessary support and here we are developing business and residential stands.
“We are not after positions in the party or elsewhere but we want to fulfill the President’s vision as youths. We are here today and we will be there tomorrow so we are pushing for the best in terms of decent accommodation for all,” Pote said.
Pote encouraged the youths to work with local authorities to ensure that all the plans are approved to avoid building illegal settlements.
“Other agencies such as Zimbabwe National Water Authority, Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority, Environmental Management Agency and others must be involved as well. Here we are already working with them.
Commenting on the same issue a youth from Goromonzi, Arthur Chidende who benefited from the Melfort scheme says there was need for youth to desist from parceling out land without approval.
“We are happy with what we see here. Everything is above board and as we build our houses we do not fear that one day someone will come and demolish my house. We are grateful that government has given youths the opportunity to show that they can be land developers as well,” he said.
Pote through his company Eastwind and Vintage Properties is developing Diamond Park housing community project in Melfort, Mashonaland East.
Covering 185ha, Diamond Park, will have modern facilities such as shopping malls, schools, clinics and others.
The park will be developed in three phases. Phase A will have 1300 stands, Phase B 650 stands and Phase C 95 stands.
