…as resource mobilisation for Covid19 continues
Church organisations and other Civic groups have called on Government to seize salaries of the recalled MDC MPs and channel them toward the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enhance the fight against the spread of the Covid19 pandemic.
A highly placed source in the Church run organisation revealed that the appeal is a plea to Government to consider channelling salaries of the recalled MPs toward the fight against Covid19 in Zimbabwe.
“As Church Organisations and Church groups we are calling upon Government to utilise monies that are going to be saved as a result of the recalled MDC MPs, to buy PPEs for schools and Mission hospitals, since schools will be opening soon. Parliament is likely to forfeit 6 months of the MPs salary.
“Furthermore, we are also urging Government to recover the vehicles that were being used by these recalled MPs so that they can be used for covid19 programmes,” he said.
Four MDC MPs were recalled from Parliament on the grounds that they had ceased representing the opposition party’s interests. This came after the Supreme Court had confirmed the High Court’s decision that declared Chamisa an illegitimate leader of the opposition party after he grabbed power a few hours after the death of MDC founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
Following this recall, Chamisa called for all MDC MPs and Senators to snub Parliament and Senate in solidarity with the recalled MPs. However eleven of them chose to attend Parliament yesterday. Some of the 11 Senators who attended Parliament yesterday include Morgen Komichi, Elias Mudzuri, Violet Moeketsi, Douglas Mwonzora, Christine Rambanapasi to mention but a few.
