The United States is reported to have upped its regime change agenda by sponsoring estranged former Zimbabwean Higher and Tertiary Education minister, Jonathan Moyo with at least US$5 million to initiate projects to wedge a war between Zanu PF’s top brass.
According to an inside source stationed at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai (MRT) House, Professor Moyo received the amount in February primarily to assist the belligerent MDC party to smartly topple the ruling party.
“Moyo was given money under strict instruction to channel at least $1 million directly to Chamisa for administrative purposes. Another million was for Job Sikhala to further his anti-government demonstrations. He was then advised to reserve the bulk of it for soft rebellion on social media and recruitment of journalists to further their cause,” he said.
Coincidentally, the MDC workers recently received three months’ salary (backdated) in the guise that the party was cushioning its workers in line with what the government had done for the civil servants. Sources said the workers were paid from the money doled out to Chamisa.
“Part of the money has been used to come up with the Spotlight Zimbabwe media, which of late has been publishing propaganda meant to drive a wedge between ED (President Emmerson Mnangagwa) and (Vice President Constantino) Chiwenga,” added the source.
He revealed that Prof Moyo has been trying hard to give Spotlight Zimbabwe some credibility by linking it to the military.
“He is the one who feeds Spotlight with all that details and goes further to post that stuff on social media, leveraging on the mega following he is enjoying on the platforms,” said the source.
The source said Prof Moyo accepted the offer with vigour as his loath for the President Mnangagwa’s administration was indubitable.
This information comes hardly a fortnight after Sikhala’s hand was fingered in the demonstrations staged in Harare’s CBD by perceived MDC youths. This only came to light after the hired youths came out grumbling for their promised (US$300) which Sikhala had nichodimuosly vanished with instead; giving them the local currency ($300 RTGS) instead.
Previously there have also been reports on the US embassy nit-picking the estranged professor to set up a think-tank in Belgravia, Harare, to give a face-lift to the MDC ahead of the 2023 elections.
