Internal rivalry is ballooning in the MDC as its leader Nelson Chamisa has drawn out knives directed at the party’s former secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora over alleged misconduct, the Harare Post can report.

A letter in possession of the Harare Post addressed to Mwonzora by the MDC party’s secretary-general, Chalton Hwende, indicates that Mwonzora has just been served with a final warning to for misconduct.

Mwonzora is accused of discussing party business in the media without party clearance and also using social media to relay his anger.

The strong worded letter reads, “We note with concern that you continue to discuss party business in the media notwithstanding the decision of the party to restrict such to authorised offices. You also continue to discuss party business on social media in violation of social media policy. As a member, you are entitled to redress in the event that you feel aggrieved by the actions or utterances of other members as provided for in our constitution which you are bound by. This letter serves as a final warning to you that such conduct will not be tolerated by the party.”

Mwonzora in one of the dailies insinuated that Chamisa is cosying up with Zanu PF G40 faction led by self-exiled Professor Jonathan Moyo and sidelining the party’s old guard.

Mwonzora was once slapped with another warning by Chamisa for travelling to Sweden for a re-engagement diplomatic mission with Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda, Kindness Paradza, Joshua Sacco of Zanu PF and Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga of MDC-T, which has angered some of his peers in the party.

Sources said the party appointed vice-chairman Job Sikhala to conduct a disciplinary hearing against Mwonzora, who is accused of fronting a Zanu PF agenda and nudging the MDC towards dialogue whipping sentiments against demonstrations.

Mwonzora is viewed as a threat because he trounced Chamisa to land the secretary-general post during the 2014 congress and enjoys a large following in the grassroots.
