Citizens have condemned the MDC leadership for drilling boreholes in densely populated areas saying such move poses health hazards to the people.
The criticism came after Dzivaresekwa Constituency House of Assembly member, Edwin Mushoriwa handed over a community borehole to his constituency yesterday.
One netizen, Michael Mutekedza tweeted that citizens should never accept this as progress.
“Zimbabweans never accept such as progress. This is surely not a smart initiative Pastor Nelson Chamisa. These boreholes are a risk to life in such densely populated urban area. Fact, this is accepting the Abnormal to be Normal, what happened to all water systems,” tweeted Mutekedza.
Another netizen, Chimoto tweeted that the MDC councillors are mining dirty water to the people.
“Mining dirty and contaminated water for people to drink. Watch as typhoid and cholera season is approaching. People will die of dysentery,” tweeted Chimoto.
The MDC led councils have embarked on the drilling of boreholes in urban areas after failing to provide safe water to the people.
Last year in September, 80 percent of the boreholes in Marondera, including one at the provincial hospital, was reported to have been contaminated. Experts said that the water was unsafe for consumption.
Some high density suburbs in Harare also reported Cholera outbreak which resulted from these boreholes. The outbreak killed 30 people and infected at least 5 460 people.
