MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa has been roundly condemned following his remarks on twitter in which he encouraged people to pray for peace whilst on the other hand inciting citizens to brace for street protests.
On his official Twitter handle, Chamisa tweeted that, “We’re faced with a terrible situation in Zimbabwe and must fix it. Decisive steps to find a lasting solution are now urgent. So I urge all to undertake a week of prayer, fasting and intercession for peace and unity, before engaging in crucial next steps. Zimbabwe shall lift her hands unto the Lord!”
Responding to Chamisa’s tweet, one netizen Pegasus Prime had no kind words for the MDC leader, saying, “Some have already taken giant leaps. God requires people to work, for he blesses the fruits of your labours not the 'fruits of thy demos'. We need opposition in this country not a gang of rogue lawyers, we haven't committed any crime. Give us alternatives not anger.”
Another netizen, Delie said Chamisa’s utterances was a reflection of what MDC Deputy National Chairman, Job Sikhala recently said at a rally in Bikita that he would overthrow President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power before his term of office expires in 2023.
Delie said, “Explain decisive, you are not threatening ZANU PF, you are threatening poor Zimbabweans, soon you will be their number one enemy. Don't you speak in riddles, its cowardice; this statement is a duplicate of Job Sikhala’s Bikita utterances.”
Chamisa’s tweet did not go down well with Ngonidzashe Meki who stressed that the MDC leader was going against God’s plan. Meki tweeted that, “You are fighting against God's plan, that's why you are running short of ideas. Wakanzwa iye Mwari mbune vachiti uchatonga nyika here? ZvaMwari hazvisi zvekumanikidzira, anywhere I think huvepo hwaMwari hwakakutiza kare nenhema dzako dziya.”
Chamisa and the MDC in general are on record for calling for street protests. In May this year, the MDC leader told a gathering at Workers’ Day that their party was mobilising people for street protests and called upon party supporters to join him in the demonstrations.
