Youths play a critical role in the mining sector as they contribute to both domestic production and export of minerals, a Government official has revealed.
Speaking at the Young Professional Forum conference held at the Mine Entra in Bulawayo last week, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Onesimo Moyo said, “The youths’ role is critically required in mining sector for the nation’s Transitional Stabilization Programme thrust of increasing both domestic production and export mining contribution is to be achieved. The young professionals both in the Government and private sector are directly involved in implementing Government policies to maximize returns from the mining endeavor.”
The Permanent Secretary said apart from being employed, the young professionals’ meaningful input was greatly sought to grow the mining sector in Zimbabwe. He called upon the youths to be actively involved in facilitating mining industry growth through directly participating in the mining investment enterprise, enhancing exploration which results in the resuscitation of closed mines and opening of new mines.
He also noted that youths should consider beneficiation and value addition of Zimbabwean minerals as well as provision of consultancy services to the mining sector particularly through consultancy.
In addition, Permanent Secretary Moyo said, “The expertise of young professionals is needed to transform the mining industry to achieve the desired level of economic growth. The key assets for future vibrant and visionary leadership are the young professionals. Their active participation in the mining sector is crucial to retain the next generation of workers for the continued mining business.”
