Citizens have applauded and described MDC Vice President Elias Mudzuri as a mature leader following his utterances on social media that MDC must respect its Constitution, shun factionalism and freely choose a unifying and focused leader.
Mudzuri`s sentiments however did not go down well with some MDC elements who want to impose Nelson Chamisa`s candidature ahead of the party`s October elective congress. They accuse Mudzuri and likeminded MDC members for being Zanu PF projects paid to cause divisions in the opposition party.
Mudzuri on his Twitter page posted, “MDC must respect its Constitution, remove fear and factional divisions to enable members to elect a leader that will unite us and focus on ending suffering in Zimbabwe.”
Responding to Engineer Mudzuri netizen Tanaka Shaya tweeted, “This is what we call mature leadership. Nelson Chamisa is full of I know and thinks the country's economic prosperity is hinged on him. It seems he is afraid of losing hence he has unleashed his fighter dogs to harass and intimidate potential challengers.”
Another troll Sibve Mudare responded, “Have spent time trying to understand the wisdom behind this tweet. Grey haired people will always look at the bigger picture whilst the young zealots are only looking at retaining power at all costs by labeling any potential nominees as ZanuPf.
Netizen Olynelo @olynelo posted, “Refuse to be silenced mukoma. We have come a long way crying for democracy in Zimbabwe and only to have our little hope trampled on by these overzealous praise and worshippers .I refuse for us to watch another mini Robert Mugabe created. I don’t hate Chamisa either but disagree with their politicking.”
Squabbles within the MDC continue to mount as time ticks towards the party`s elective congress. The party`s National Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya a few weeks ago was heavily criticised by some party members for his dictatorial utterances that the party does not expect Chamisa to be challenged at the congress.
Chibaya warned party members wishing to challenge Chamisa that they risked plunging themselves into what he termed political dustbin.
Sources within MDC have revealed that Mudzuri and the party`s Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora are likely to contest Chamisa at the congress and that Chamisa is allegedly working hard to thwart the two`s aspirations.
