MDC T vice president, Obert Gutu has accused his counterparts in the MDC Alliance of being puppets of the west.
Gutu lambasted the MDC Alliance for dismissing a solidarity statement given by SADC which supported Zimbabwe Government following the 14 to 16 January 2019 violent protests organised by ZCTU and MDC Alliance that claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of dollars.
Gutu on his twitter page said, “You may shout at and insult SADC and the AU all you want, but the fact is puppets have got absolutely no traction whether it is within Africa or beyond. Puppets never last the distance, do they? You remember a puppet called Jonas Savimbi of Angola?”
He went on to say that Zimbabwe is a member of both these organs and that puppets are not accepted in these organs.
“Zimbabwe is a member state of both SADC and the AU. SADC and the AU have spoken. Pan-Africanism and Afro-optimism viciously frowns upon puppetry, neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism,” he said.
Gutu castigated the USA for meddling in other country’s business.
“On a personal level, I have got an excellent relationship with the United States of America. But anyone who believes that the USA can dictate who should broker talks between the Zimbabwean Government and the political opposition is completely ignorant of how international relations play out,” he said.
One netizen Mfowethu @Mufowethu1 responded saying, “The AU Vision 2063 is premised on the theme: ‘African Solutions for African Problems’, but of course the @mdczimbabwe does not know this. That is why their first port of call is always the US & the EU. They will gradually realise that Zimbabwe is not in the Caribbean or the Balkans.”
SADC and AU had released a statement showing its support for the Zimbabwean Government and all its efforts. They also acknowledged that Zimbabwe’s economy is being negatively affected by illegal sanctions imposed by the West and called for the lifting of these sanctions.
USA had recently written a statement saying the Zimbabwean Government was abusing human rights and freedoms and how Zimbabwe should deal with its issues. The USA has also placed sanctions upon Zimbabwe that is, Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZIDERA).
