In a shocking attack that has left many in the diplomatic field reeling, Zimbabwean opposition party, MDC, has called Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, “stupid.” This follows President Kenyatta’s reiteration of his country’s support for Zimbabwe and his call for sanctions to be removed.
Taking to Twitter after meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Special envoy, Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Perence Shiri, President Kenyatta stated that “Kenya continues to stand in solidarity with Zimbabwe as the country works to solve its challenges. Imposing sanctions on a country is like tying somebody’s hands and feet. We will give our support to bring back Zimbabwe to the global platform.”
This did not go down well with MDC Zengeza West Member of Parliament, Job Sikhala, who lashed out at President Kenyatta saying “You are lost Uhuru Kenyata. What special message from a blood thirst despot who sanctioned torture, rape and murder of Zimbabweans. We Zimbabweans know what is happening in our country. If you think this is special then you must be stupid.”
This is not the first time that the MDC has attacked international leaders and diplomats. In October last year, the party’s Deputy National Chairperson, Tendai Biti, launched an unprovoked attack on outgoing UK Ambassador, Catriona Laing, saying “as an individual, she was an absolute disaster and sad representative of the British government. She was an absolute disaster. She had no right to be called an ambassador.”
The MDC officials’ diplomatic gaffes are increasingly being condemned by some of his fellow party members and even neutral observers.
