Government has promised to allocate farming land to Hwange youths who have a proven track record in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at a prize giving ceremony at Lukosi Irrigation Scheme in Hwange last week, the Matebeleland North Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo, assured youths who had attended a capacity building workshop hosted by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement, that Government would avail land to all productive youths to venture into farming business and contribute towards economic growth of the country.

“I am humbled and grateful to officiate at this prize giving ceremony. I am extremely grateful to the Ministry for the capacity building workshop as it has equipped the people of Hwange with requisite kills for them to be productive in their farming endeavors. I want to assure the youths in Hwange that Government is ready to avail land to them so that they could venture into various agricultural practices as we thrive to achieve food security in the country. If we all wholeheartedly work on our pieces of land, Zimbabwe would be the bread basket of Africa again,” said Minister Moyo.

Minister Moyo further said youths and all other citizens should work on the land, applying the skills they have acquired during the capacity building workshop. He commended people working at Lukosi irrigation scheme for turning it into one of the vibrant projects in Hwange.

Speaking at the same occasion, ZANU PF’s Hwange District Coordinating Committee Chairperson Cde Mathew Muleya, commended the Government for availing land to the youths and urged those who would be beneficiaries of the same not to let it lie idle but to fully utilize it.

Cde Muleya said as part of empowering people in the Province, the ZANU PF leadership had pledged to construct a market place at Jambezi for women to sell their farm produce.

ZANU PF Director for Production Dr Madambi also urged people to embrace President Mnangagwa’s mantra of enhancing production for the country to achieve an Upper Middle Income Economy Status by 2030.  Dr Madambi said every Province should have flagship economic activities which are in line with the National Development Strategy One (NDS1).

The Hwange prize giving ceremony was supported by various stakeholders including the Empower Bank, Seedco, Cottco, Mukushi Seeds, K2 seeds and many other stakeholders.
