President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday attended the 39th virtual session of the African Union Development Agency- New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA – NEPAD) Heads of State and Government Orientation Meeting this Wednesday where he re-affirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to fulfilling the goals and vision of continental development.

The Meeting whose key objective was sustainable development for Africa among others, was chaired by the organisation’s chairperson President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

President Mnangagwa revealed that Zimbabwe was implementing projects that impact socio-economic growth  such as road infrastructure development.

“Zimbabwe is committed to fulfilling the goal and vision of African Union development agency- NEPAD. As such my government remains seized with projects that dove-tail with the various priority areas of this agency.

“These projects include road infrastructure development, modernisation of border posts, dam construction and clean energy power generation. Over and above these programs relating to the transformation of food systems and climate resilience,” he said.

President Mnangagwa called upon member states to work together and mobilise for financial challenges hindering optimum execution of activities the continent is facing

“However we take note of the challenges hindering optimum execution of our activities. As a collective and motivated by a common purpose it is imperative that we proffer robust initiatives to mobilize resources.”

NEPAD is a socio-economic flagship programme of the African Union whose objectives are to eradicate poverty, promote sustainable growth and development, integrate Africa into the world economy and accelerate the empowerment of women.
