This was said by President Mnangagwa while addressing the party’s winning and losing candidates in Harare yesterday.
As a result of their actions, some Zanu PF candidates scored more votes than the President in 116 constituencies in a clear testimony of the bhora musango protest vote which prejudiced the President of crucial votes.
“There were others who were saying vote for the MP but as for the President, just do what you think is good for you. We now know these people. What it shows is that such comrades do not rely on the leadership of party. So such people should be retired and if they want to come back, they should come back as full members of the party,” said the President.
The President urged unity among party members and appealed to them to abide by the party ideology.
“What we want is unity, from the grassroots level up to national leadership speaking one message. That is why we have party ideology. We should all follow party ideology wherever we go,” President Mnangagwa said.
In 2008, Zanu PF suffered from the acts of such malcontents in the party who were urging the electorate not to vote for the President but for them as legislators leading to the 27 June 2008 Presidential run-off.
Despite the malcontent candidates’ acts of sabotage, President Mnangagwa romped to victory with 50.8 of the valid votes cast compared to the MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa who garnered 44.3 percent of the vote.
