“We have a very simple system that allows for the posting of results on the polling stations as an indication to the whole world to see for themselves the transparency of the whole process,” said Justice Chigumba at a press conference held today.
“However, let all political parties know that it is an offence in terms of the Electoral Act to announce results as if they were official results,” she added.
Speaking at the same conference, Commissioner Faith Sebata said, “Voting in Mashonaland East progressed very well and ZEC Team worked very well, with queues moving smoothly and by 9am, queues were clearing an indication that our people have matured politically.”
Commissioner Qhubani Moyo who is manning the Midlands Province said “there is also high voter turn-out especially in Mberengwa where we had 99% voter turn-out,” he said.
The ZEC Chairperson said it would take them up to the 4th of August to come out with the final results, as they would have to collect, verify and disseminate the results. However, if the process if faster, it can be any day before the 4th of August, she said.
