Farmers urged to plant early

On its Twitter handle, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the Meteorological Department had confirmed that most parts of the country had received rain, so early planting was being encouraged.

“The Meteorological Department indicates that most parts of the country have received significant rains, early planting is encouraged. The Presidential Inputs Scheme has brought relief to many people across the country,” said the Ministry of Information.

This year the Presidential Inputs Scheme is going to benefit about two million vulnerable households under State-sponsored Schemes designed to assist marginalised people.

Government is also supporting thousands of vulnerable households under the Presidential Free Cotton Inputs Scheme in turn boosting the Cotton Industry.

Government continues to support farmers by providing inputs for maize, cotton, sorghum and pearl millet.

The Presidential Input Scheme is already on course as most household have already received their allocations before the onset of rain this year. Farmers have also been assured that they will get their fertilisers and chemicals on time for them to plant crops after Government contracted Fertiliser Seed Grain (FSG) to supply farmers with the inputs.
