MDC’s “illegitimacy” mantra outdated: Analysts

Analysts who spoke to the Harare Post have criticized the MDC’s fixation on the ‘illegitimacy’ issue, accusing that party of lacking in innovative ideas on how to improve the country and people’s lives.

Analyst, John Wood said, “The illegitimacy claim the MDC has been riding on is well past its expiry date, the party needs to start thinking forward and come up with ideas that help the general public.

“This is where Zanu PF wins election because it is already in election mode preparing for 2023 while the MDC is still fixating on the last election,” he said.

National Patriotic Front (NPF) member and MDC sympathiser, Setfree Mafukidze, dismissed MDC Secretary General, Chalton Hwende’s post on Twitter in which he claimed that currency reforms without solving the ‘illegitimacy’ issue would not work.

Mafukidze tweeted, “But Secretary General, should we get to the next election talking about the last election? I mean this legitimacy issue has proved beyond doubt that it can never be brought to finality. Can we at least start looking at how we can all stop the suffering in our country?”

Another analyst, James Magirazi questioned why the MDC was not concentrating its efforts in giving quality service delivery in its urban run councils than wasting time with its ‘illegitimacy’ mantra.

On the same issue, MDC-T Vice President, Obert Gutu lamented the sorry state of the urban areas, laying the blame on the Chamisa led MDC.

“Driving through the City of Harare and its environment feels like you are visiting an abandoned and dilapidated war zone. Broken-down infrastructure, run-down roads, filth, uncollected garbage etc. Do we really have a local authority running Harare?”

The fact that the MDC has been riding on the ‘illegitimacy’ mantra ever since the 2018 harmonised elections only proves that that party is devoid of ideas on how to better the lives of ordinary citizens in Zimbabwe.
