Right on his November 2017 inauguration President Emmerson Mnangagwa spelt out his vision for a new Zimbabwe which is based on his desire to transform the country’s economy to a middle income one by 2030. This was not just a wish but a solid policy which is supported by strategies such as re-engaging with other countries.   His engagements and re-engagements efforts should never go unappreciated. The same line of argument can be extended to the ongoing salary negations between Government and its employees.

Over the past week, there have been spurious calls for protests against Government by the opposition which argues that the living conditions for Zimbabweans are deteriorating. The calls to shutdown Zimbabwe unceremoniously failed to yield the desired outcome owing to a number of interventions by Government to cushion its citizenry amid the austerity measures it is undertaking.
