Legislators from both Zanu PF and the CCC have united in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa staying on as Zimbabwe’s leader beyond 2028, emphasizing that his leadership has set the country on a promising developmental path.
During a tour of the First Family’s Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe, MPs from across the political divide praised President Mnangagwa’s contributions to agriculture and national development.
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Sengezo Tshabangu, remarked, “If we approve your stay in power and the people of Zimbabwe are happy, let it be.” He highlighted the importance of unity and coexistence in moving the nation forward, adding that collaboration in Parliament would strengthen efforts to rebuild Zimbabwe.
Zanu PF Deputy Political Commissar, Webster Shamu, expressed similar sentiments noting the widespread support for president Mnangagwa’s continued presidency.
“The MPs have voiced their concerns, and they want you to stay as the country’s President beyond 2028,” he said.
The MPs were impressed by the productivity at Pricabe Farm, which they viewed as a model for agricultural excellence.
Opposition Senator Tshabangu described the farm as a symbol of what Zimbabwe could achieve with proper leadership.
“If we can replicate this level of production across the country, we can improve our national food basket,” he said.
CCC National Assembly proportional representation member, Dr. Thokozani Khupe, lauded the President’s leadership, calling it “unparalleled.” She stressed the need to separate politics from progress, noting that what the MPs witnessed at the farm was proof of Zimbabwe’s potential to reclaim its status as the breadbasket of Africa. “Development is not rocket science; it’s about learning from successful models like this one,” she said.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, echoed these views, reaffirming the province’s support for president Mnangagwa’s leadership.
“As a province, we continue to call for your continued stay as President beyond 2030,” he said.
Zanu PF Chief Whip, Pupurai Togarepi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the First Family’s agricultural initiatives.
“We have been eager to see what the President is doing, and this visit has exceeded our expectations,” he said.
The bipartisan support showcased at Pricabe Farm underscores the growing recognition of president Mnangagwa’s leadership as key to Zimbabwe’s progress, with both ruling party and opposition lawmakers aligning to prioritize national development.
