The Munhumutapa Economic Empowerment Programme, spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been launched in Makoni District as part of Zimbabwe’s march toward achieving Vision 2030.

The initiative focuses on rural development and economic upliftment to eradicate poverty and foster sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking at the launch last Saturday, Makoni West Member of Parliament Dr. Jenfan Muswere highlighted the programme’s alignment with the Rural Development 8.0 model.
“The President is committed to eradicating poverty. Through the V30 Accelerator Model, we have introduced business units in villages and climate-proof agriculture. Today, we distributed 5 000 chicks to locals, adding to the 40,000 chicks previously distributed. Additionally, fish farming is being promoted across all districts through the provision of fingerlings. We will soon launch more initiatives under Chiefs Tandi, Mupambawashe, and Chiduku, including the Presidential Cotton Support Scheme,” he explained.

Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, underscored the success of youth- and women-focused initiatives in the province.
“Here in Manicaland, ten youth empowerment initiatives are progressing well under the President’s leadership. Empower Bank has supported 1 072 youths financially, while the Youths Ten Hectare Programme is thriving. The Presidential Housing Scheme

in Chipinge has allocated 3 600 stands, and the Presidential Heifer Scheme has already benefitted several families. Vocational training centres have been established in every district,” said Mugadza.
The youths in Makoni West expressed gratitude for the empowerment projects.
“We are thankful for the 5 000 chicks, 10 000 fingerlings, and agricultural inputs. These initiatives give us hope for self-reliance,” said one youth.

Another added, “These projects encourage us to focus on productivity and move away from drug abuse. We deeply appreciate the leadership of President Mnangagwa and Minister Muswere.”
The Munhumutapa Economic Empowerment Programme is a cornerstone of the Second Republic’s vision to fast-track rural development and achieve an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
By investing in agriculture, housing, and youth empowerment, the initiative continues to uplift communities and foster economic resilience across Zimbabwe.
