DJ Ribhe remanded in custody on rape charges

A prominent producer and promoter at chillspot Records, Tafadzwa Mandaza, widely known as DJ Ribhe has been remanded in custody following serious allegations of raping a 14-year-old girl. The 32-year-old DJ appeared before Harare Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Wednesday, where he was advised to seek bail from the High Court. He is set to return to court on November 14 for a routine remand hearing.

The allegations against DJ Ribhe stem from an incident that reportedly took place on October 16, 2024. According to the State, the complainant, a local schoolgirl, had not returned home for two consecutive days, prompting concern from her father. On the evening of October 17, she was seen at Ribhe’s residence in Glen Norah suburb, accompanied by others. The group later travelled to Mashwede Village, where the DJ allegedly offered her an unknown substance to drink and encouraged her to smoke shisha.

It is claimed that when the girl regained consciousness at Ribhe’s home, she discovered that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with her without her consent. Distressed, she managed to leave and was later found in Highfields on October 20. Upon her father’s inquiry, she revealed the troubling details of her experience, which led to a police report and subsequently, DJ Ribhe's arrest.

The case has sparked significant attention in the community, highlighting concerns over the safety of minors and the responsibilities of adults. As the legal proceedings unfold, many are watching closely to see how the justice system addresses these serious allegations.
