Zimbabweans residing in South Africa have launched an ambitious project to establish a state-of-the-art private boarding and day school in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North.

The project, led by the Zimbabweans for Education Development (ZED), aims to address long-standing educational challenges in the region, offering modern facilities and quality learning resources for local children.

The ZED project has quickly gained traction among Zimbabweans abroad, with support pouring in through financial donations and professional expertise.

"We believe education is a powerful tool for change. By building this school, we aim to give children in Tsholotsho access to quality education that will help them succeed," said ZED spokesperson, Tendai Moyo.

The envisioned school will feature modern classrooms, science and computer labs, a library, and sports facilities, catering to both boarding and day students.

The curriculum is expected to meet national education standards, while incorporating innovative teaching methods and activities designed to foster holistic development.

The decision to establish this institution comes amid calls for enhanced educational opportunities in rural areas where facilities are scarce and qualified teachers are often lacking.

Local data highlights significant educational challenges in Tsholotsho district, particularly in remote communities that struggle with access to quality schooling.

To fund the project, ZED has launched a series of fundraising initiatives, from community events to online campaigns targeting Zimbabweans in the diaspora.

“The support we have received has been overwhelming, a testament to our community's commitment to creating positive change back home,” Moyo added.

In addition to providing education, the school project is set to create numerous job opportunities for locals, from teaching positions to administrative roles, bolstering the region’s economy, while empowering residents to take active roles in their children’s education.

As the project advances, ZED plans to break ground within the coming year, in close collaboration with local authorities and education stakeholders. The goal is to create a sustainable, community-supported institution that serves as a model of educational excellence for the region.
