The Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce, led by Ambassador Paula Caldwell St-Onge, has initiated discussions with the Zimbabwean government to explore new avenues of economic collaboration and investment.
During a recent courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Shava, at his Munhumutapa offices, the Chamber expressed keen interest in strengthening bilateral ties in key sectors such as mining, clean energy, information and communications technology (ICT), agriculture, education, and manufacturing.
The high-level meeting, attended by senior Zimbabwean Government officials and representatives from the Chamber, marked an important step in fostering deeper economic cooperation between Zimbabwe and Canada.
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana confirmed that the visit was part of Zimbabwe’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and diversify its economy across strategic sectors.
“Yesterday, the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce, led by Ambassador Paula Caldwell St-Onge, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade at his Munhumutapa offices. The organization is in Zimbabwe to explore opportunities in mining, clean energy, ICT, agriculture, education, and manufacturing,” Mangwana said.
Mangwana also revealed that the Chamber would engage with local Zimbabwean companies in follow-up meetings scheduled for today, to identify specific areas for partnership.
"They will meet with Zimbabwean companies tomorrow to discuss potential areas of collaboration,” he added.
Ambassador Adler Aristilde, Canada’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, underscored the Chamber's enthusiasm for expanding economic ties and exploring investment opportunities that can drive sustainable growth in both countries.
In a statement, Ambassador Aristilde said, “A special Canadian Thanksgiving in Harare with Canadian heads of delegations, CEOs, and the Zimbabwean Government at the Canada-Africa Business Conference, scheduled for October 15-16, is a crucial platform for fostering economic cooperation. We are grateful to Hon. Minister Shava for his warm greetings and good wishes to the conference organizers, sponsors, and participants. Congratulations to the 25 Canadian companies participating in the Canada-Africa Business Conference.”
The Canada-Africa Business Conference is expected to serve as a critical platform for discussions on how both countries can develop long-term partnerships.
The event will bring together Canadian business leaders, Zimbabwean companies, and government officials to identify practical collaboration opportunities in sectors that are pivotal for both nations’ economic growth and development.
