Zimbabwe’s tourism sector received a significant boost with the launch of the USD 30 million Chesa Resort, a major investment by MCM Investments.
The resort, located in Mount Darwin South constituency, is expected to play a key role in enhancing the country's tourism appeal and contributing to its Vision 2030 development goals.
The launch event attracted a range of dignitaries, investors, and stakeholders, including Kudakwashe Mupamhanga, the Member of Parliament for Mount Darwin South, and Dr. Takaruza Munyanyiwa, the Permanent Secretary for Tourism, who delivered the keynote address on behalf of Tourism Minister Barbra Rwodzi.
In his address, Dr. Munyanyiwa described the Chesa Resort as a strategic project aligned with Zimbabwe’s efforts to position itself as a top tourism destination.
“This is more than just a resort—it is a bold and ambitious project aimed at boosting tourism in Zimbabwe and beyond. Investments like Chesa Resort are crucial to our national goal of achieving Vision 2030 by creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and promoting sustainable development,” said Dr. Munyanyiwa.
MCM Investments CEO and founder, Anthony McMullen spearheaded the project, which he sees as a catalyst for both the tourism industry and local economic growth.
He noted that Zimbabwe’s improved infrastructure and services under the Second Republic have made the country an attractive environment for investors.
“I have had the opportunity to work in Zimbabwe for the past three years, and the progress made in improving services and infrastructure has been remarkable. The opportunities for growth here are immense,” said McMullen.
The Chesa Resort is expected to have a far-reaching impact, particularly in the local community of Mount Darwin South constituency.
Mupamhanga highlighted the project’s role in fostering sustainable development and long-term empowerment for local communities.
“The politics of today must focus on projects that outlive their creators and provide long-term benefits to the people. Sustainable initiatives like Chesa Resort will empower communities, create jobs, and promote resilience, laying the foundation for a prosperous future,” said Mupamhanga.
A major highlight of the event was the appointment of Zimbabwe cricket captain Sikandar Raza as the brand ambassador for Chesa Resort.
Raza expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, “I am honoured to represent a project that is committed to Zimbabwe’s growth and development. This resort is a symbol of a bright future.”
The launch of Chesa Resort marks a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s tourism investment landscape. With its world-class facilities and strategic location, the resort is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, further boosting the country’s economy and contributing to its long-term development objectives.
