Political analysts have castigated Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) for the smear campaign that has led to the spread of falsehoods over the unfortunate and untimely death of one of their members, by claiming that he was killed by Zanu PF supporters.

According to eye witnesses who were at the scene the deceased, Tinashe Chitsunge, a member of the CCC met his untimely death by slipping off a moving truck and was run over by oncoming traffic.

“The two parties (Zanu PF and CCC) were out mobilising for votes for their respective parties when they met along one of the roads in Glen View 7.  Tinashe and a guy identified only as Tau ran towards the CCC campaign truck and tried to climb it, while it was moving, Tinashe miscalculated and slipped off the truck unto the tarmac with oncoming traffic and a truck ran him over, unfortunately leading to his death,” said a resident who denied to be identified for fear of victimisation.

Political analyst Nevermore Mutero slammed the CCC for what he called attention seeking gimmicks, as the election draws near.

“The CCC is well aware that it is further from winning an election against Zanu PF and that the closest they can get to leading this country is through a Government of National Unity (GNU), as such they have put all their energy in trying to get the election discredited.

“Since the time when President Emmerson Mnangagwa set the date for elections, CCC’s agenda has been to tarnish Zanu PF image, nullify the election, as well as paint itself as a victim before the regional, continental and international Election Observer Missions (EOMs), yet everyone is aware that CCC is the one that has been perpetrating violence against its opponents,” said Mutero.

Incidences of violence have been reported across the country, where members of the CCC have been attacking members of the Zanu PF Party.  In Waterfalls, CCC activist, Farai Chireya assaulted a Zanu PF campaign team member, Ephraim Saungweme at Zindoga Shopping centre, another prominent CCC supporter who is also a Branch Manager with the Chegutu Chicken Inn was caught on camera assaulting a Zanu PF member for placing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s poster near the food outlet.

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa is on record calling for peace and tolerance before, during and after the 23 August 2023, Harmonised General Elections.
