The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has been exposed for hatching a plan to render the election null and void, the Harare Post can reveal.
According to political analyst, Nevermore Mutero, Chamisa purposefully delayed the submission of names for his party’s selected House of Assembly candidates for Matabeleland North Province, to deliberately delay their registration with the Nomination Court, fully aware they would be disqualified from participating in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections.
“Chamisa is aware of the dwindling numbers in his support base. People have lost faith in him due to his undemocratic ways and he is aware of it. He has also lost the support of the CCC elders such as, Thabitha Khumalo, Thokozane Khupe, Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti and their followers as well.
“So what better way to smoke-screen his election loss by marring the elections through claims of law fare? His plan to entangle the Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) and the Government of Zimbabwe with court cases is meant to delay the electoral processes in order to render the election null and void,” said Mutero.
According to one of the CCC elders, the disqualification of the 12 played perfectly well into Chamisa`s plan to boycott the election.
“If the courts thought they were fixing the CCC by disqualifying the 12, then they are in for a huge awakening, Chamisa’s plan was to set the ground for an election boycott claiming harassment and law fare as the tool,” said the CCC elder who refused to be named for fear of victimization.
True to the claims that Chamisa is planning to boycott the election, this week he announced that he would boycott the August 23 elections while addressing a campaign rally in Marondera. He indicated that he would boycott the elections if his 12 Bulawayo National Assembly candidates were not reinstated.
Meanwhile, one of the 12 CCC disqualified members; CCC Deputy Spokesperson Gift Siziba would soon face a jail term for perjury after he lied in court under oath that he individually submitted his nomination papers in Bulawayo on a day when he was actually in Harare.
